Divine Mercy Prayer Group
The devotion to the Divine Mercy is a Catholic devotion to the merciful love of God shown to us sinners. It is the desire for His mercy shown to us through Jesus Christ our Lord, to fill and flow through our hearts and towards all those who need it.
The devotion to the Divine Mercy was initiated through the revelations of Christ to a religious sister, now Saint Mary Faustina Kowalska (1905-1938), who is also known as the Apostle of Mercy.
The Divine Mercy Prayer Group of our parish is a community gathered by faith to proclaim the Divine Mercy of God for the conversion of souls, through the Holy Spirit, under the authority of the Catholic Church, to lead us into deeper Christian faith. We wish to share the salvation in Christ Jesus with all humankind; to witness to the fullness of the kingdom of God; and to share the word of God. In this way we surrender our lives to the power of the Holy Spirit and become full disciples of Christ, not only by our words, but more importantly by the witness in our lives, firmly believing, sincerely worshipping, generously serving and joyfully radiating God’s love in practice.
We focus on corporal and spiritual works of mercy. Corporal works of mercy include feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty, clothing the naked and visiting the sick. Spiritual works of mercy include bearing wrong patiently, forgiving offences willingly, comforting the afflicted, and praying for the living and the dead. To realise our vision and to accomplish our mission, we concentrate on the following three activities in our parish:
- Service: feeding the hungry, comforting the sick, giving drinks to the thirsty and forgiving offences.
- Education: being patient with those in error, participating in the parish catechetical program, in seminars, retreats and recollections.
Worship: actively participating in the Divine Mercy prayer meeting every Sunday, frequently participating in the sacraments of the Holy Eucharist and reconciliation, praying the Holy Rosary, praying the Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and the 3 o’clock Prayer.
Those who join the group are responsible for punctual and regular attendance at the prayer meetings; for any duties and responsibilities assigned; and for participation in the Holy Mass.
Our prayer meetings take place every Sunday from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm in the church garden.
